Message From Nova Scotia International Ferry Partnership
The recent announcement by Premier Dexter that the Province of Nova Scotia will support the re-establishment of a cruise-ferry service between Nova Scotia and the USA is great news. The appointment of the expert panel and their findings that a ferry service can be sustainable set the stage for the Premier’s announcement.
This is the important first step we were looking for. While much remains to be done it is a significant change that we are now working to find a solution rather than resolving a problem. We will maintain a keen interest as things progress and do our utmost to support the province in this effort.
On behalf of the Nova Scotia International Ferry Partnership we wish to say thank you to all of you who have provided Testimonials, submitted Business Impact Information or supported our efforts in other ways. Your information and support gave credence to our campaign and confidence that we were on the right track.
We have not yet reached our goal. We encourage all of you that have a vested interest in this issue to stay involved and to continue to make the case for a new cruise-ferry service until the first ship sails into Yarmouth Harbour.

Draft Request for Proposals - Ferry
The Province of Nova Scotia, Canada, has recently announced that it will make up to $21 million (Cdn) available over a seven-year period to support the re-establishment of ferry service between Yarmouth Nova Scotia, and the State of Maine in the United States. The Province is conducting a request for proposals (RFP) process to find a suitable ferry operator, with whom the Province is prepared to negotiate one or more agreements. The agreements would provide financial assistance to a ferry company during the start-up phase and early years of the operation with the goal of becoming a self-sustaining business.
A draft RFP document has been made available that includes an overview of the project as well as anticipated technical and financial requirements which may be included in the final RFP. At this time, potential operators are invited to consider the draft and provide feedback on specific questions and contracting approaches set out in the draft RFP.
The draft can be found HERE.
The Province will be hosting an in-person briefing session to outline the draft RFP and describe the process for obtaining operator feedback. The session time and location are as follows:
Date: Tuesday, November 20, 2012
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: Room 304, World Trade and Convention Centre
1800 Argyle St.
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Potential operators who wish to attend are requested to notify the following contacts and provide your name, name(s) of attendees, your email address and telephone number.
John Somers
somersjh@gov.ns.ca
(902)424-2794
Angela Mackenzie

We would appreciate hearing your views on this opportunity and feedback on the draft document by November 30th 2012. Attendance at the in-person session is not mandatory to participate in the RFP process or to provide comment. Operators are also welcome to request meetings and or a conference call with the Province. Operator feedback will also be accepted via email.
